In recent times, milk baths have become an increasingly popular trend, but did you know in the ancient world, milk was also commonly added to baths for its nourishing properties?

Discover why we use milk baths, the benefits and how milk proteins are infused into our transformative skincare therapies for the ultimate skin-softening experience.

What is a milk bath?

A milk bath is exactly what the name suggests… a bath… with milk! This can be beneficial for numerous skin concerns, including chicken skin, dry skin and psoriasis.

What are the benefits of a milk bath for the skin?

Milk baths have a plethora of anecdotal evidence, to show that they can help reduce irritated, itchy, inflamed skin and dermatologists often state that they work hard to remove dead skin cells, reduce wrinkles and leave your skin glowing. Here’s how…

  • Exfoliation: milk contains lactic acid, which acts as a mild alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). This helps with exfoliation, to reduce dry, rough, bumpy skin and smooth texture, therefore being a great way of helping to improve skin conditions such as keratosis pilaris.
  • Hydration: as a result of the nourishing ingredients of milk, like proteins, minerals and vitamins, milk baths can be beneficial for hydrating and replenishing the skin.
  • Ease sunburn: interestingly, the proteins and vitamins in milk can help calm inflammation. However, you should not rely solely on a milk bath in the instance of sunburn to the skin.
  • Anecdotal evidence has also shown that milk baths can improve firmness, ease tension and reduce dry spots.

How do I take a milk bath?

You can use real milk (yes, the milk you drink) to make a milk bath, by simply adding 1-2 cups into warm bath water. You can also use our very own hero-formulated Bath Milk Oil, to give you all the same benefits and more. AMELIORATE Softening Bath Milk Oil is a mild, milky formula that gently cleanses, protects and replenishes natural moisture in your skin.

One of our favorite active ingredients in this formula is hydrolyzed milk protein. This is an excellent skin conditioner that words hard to bind moisture within the upper levels of the skin. This helps to further enhance the complex’s moisturizing capabilities. Hydrolyzed milk protein hydrates the skin and makes it smoother and lighter. It can also be beneficial in repairing damaged hair.

Together, as part of our unique LaH6 Skin Hydration Complex this non-oily milk nourishes and conditions, supporting the skin's natural protective barrier and reducing moisture loss. The lightweight, easily-absorbed lotion progressively refines, improving skin texture and condition.

Your milk bath routine:

Whether you suffer with a dry face, body or scalp, skin in need of gentle, hydrating effects can benefit from hydrolyzed milk protein. While it is infused with protein and amino acid content, milk protein is non-irritating, therefore being a fantastic ingredient for those with sensitive skin too. This is why hydrolyzed milk protein does not only exist within our Bath Milk Oil, but is also infused into each and every product within our LaH6 complex. This hero 2-in-1 complex exfoliates dry and damaged skin cells, encouraging cell turnover and leaving the skin feeling silky smooth. So, how can you use this in your weekly routine?

  • Beginning by stating the obvious, pour some of the skin-softening Bath Milk Oil into your bathtub and soak for 10-15 minutes while water is running and allow time to absorb our skin hydration complex. This formula is so gentle, that not only is it safe for pregnant women, but also suitable for children age 3+. You can use this 2-3 times per week.
  • For progressive improvement in skin texture and condition follow with AMELIORATE Transforming Body Lotion. This can help smooth away rough and bumpy texture even further, soften and protect the skin, while intensely moisturizing for 24 hours.
